Kershaw: suspended sentence

Andy Kershaw has been given a three month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, after admitting breaching a restraining order and drunk driving:

High Bailiff Michael Moyle told Kershaw he was not prepared to make him a "martyr".

Presumably Moyle was afraid the red-blooded Radio 3 audience would be chaining themselves to the outside of Douglas' jail.

There's already a whiff of singed martyr about this foolish man - refusing to see his kids for weeks on end (presumably in the hope that this would bring his hapless ex-bird into line) and then complaining that he's being 'denied access' is just bonkers.

being from the Isle of Man, I've heard what Moyle has to say far too many occasions.. and usually it's about making an example of somebody, rather than a martyr.. maybe he just felt like a bit of variety?
